In crafting A Song Below Water, my musical philosophy delves into the ethereal realm of underwater sounds, specifically the enchanting cadence of fish. This electroacoustic composition employs avant-garde techniques, intertwining alto saxophone, bassoon, timpani, and piano with electronic devices. Inspired by the aquatic world’s hidden sonic atmosphere, the piece assumes the majestic form of a whale, its rhythmic patterns echoing the depths of marine life. This sonic journey mirrors the profound questions of music’s essence and my purpose as a composer. As I navigate the currents of creativity, this work, akin to George Crumb’s Vox Balaenae, encapsulates the synergy of natural sounds and avant-garde exploration in the realm of electroacoustic music.
